This print features the tentacles of Rhizophysa eysenhardtii, a rare deep-sea siphonophore observed only a handful of times during blackwater dives in Cozumel. Siphonophores are colonial organisms made up of specialized individual units working together as one. When encountered, this species can expand to nearly two meters in length, then contract to just a few centimeters, transforming continuously as it drifts through open water.
Photographed during a blackwater dive, this pattern captures the fluid, thread-like tentacles in constant motion, revealing a creature few people ever witness.

This print is a curated collection of planktonic organisms photographed during blackwater dives in Cozumel, Mexico. The pattern brings together a variety of larval and drifting species, each encountered briefly as they rise toward the surface at night. Strange, delicate, and often alien in appearance, these tiny organisms form the foundation of open-ocean ecosystems.

AllThis print is based on photographs of a single Diamond Squid encountered during a blackwater dive in July 2025 in Cozumel, Mexico. Although the squid was missing one arm, it remained active, curious, and unafraid, offering an extended and rare observation. Moments like this are uncommon in open water, where encounters are usually brief and fleeting.
Captured through blackwater photography, this pattern documents not a species in general, but one individual animal, transforming a unique meeting into a wearable record.

Every night, billions of creatures rise from the deep ocean toward the surface. Almost nobody knows this is happening. I've made it my life's work to change that.
My name is Frida Yolotzin Jonguitud. I'm a mexican biologist, scuba instructor, and blackwater photographer based in Cozumel, Mexico. I specialize in the organisms most people never see — jellyfish, ctenophores, siphonophores, and the countless other planktonic animals that drift through the open ocean in the dark.
Diel vertical migration is one of the largest animal movements on Earth — and one of the most invisible. Sharing these animals is an act of conservation. You can't protect what you've never seen.
