One side features the Sharpear Enope Squid (Ancistrocheirus lesueurii), a deep-sea species covered in specialized light-producing organs called photophores. The other features the Diamond Squid (Thysanoteuthis rhombus), recognizable by the large fins that give its body a distinctive diamond-like shape.
SCIENCE NOTE: Both species are cephalopods, but they have very different ways of navigating life in the open ocean. The Sharpear Enope Squid produces its own light through bioluminescent photophores, while the Diamond Squid is named for the broad, diamond-shaped fins along its mantle.
